Mastering Postgraduate Scholarship Applications

​​​​​​​​​​This interactive workshop is for SU postgraduate students who are applying for National Research Foundation (NRF) scholarships. 

The workshop covers:​

1. The fundamentals of applying for research funding.​

​2. ​An introduction to the NRF postgraduate scholarship programme.

3. How to strengthen your research and professional profile.
4. What is meant by Research Impact. 
​5. How to manage the budget.
6. ​Where to find further opportunities for funding. ​​

Target audience

Registered SU postgraduate students who will be applying to fund their Master's or Doctoral studies. 

Take note of the following NRF requirements before registering for the workshop:

  • The NRF minimum academic requirement for postgraduate funding is 65%.
  • In the year of application, regardless of the first year of registration, the NRF has maximum age restrictions for the following:
    • 28 years old or younger for Honours, 
    • 30 years old or younger for Master's,
    • 32 years old or younger for Doctoral studies.

Cost

This workshop opportunity is funded by the Postgraduate Office. There is no cost involved for registered SU postgraduates who sign up and attend, however, in the case of late cancellations or non-attendance, applicants will be responsible for the full workshop fee since late cancellations and non-attendance have considerable cost implications for our Office.​​

Online course format

This is a two-day interactive workshop. Participants will be expected to be available to attend all four of the online sessions via Microsoft Teams. The sessions will not be recorded. 
 

There are two compulsory online sessions per day of each 2-day workshop:

09:00-10:30
14:00-15:30
