International postgraduate students
Foreign postgraduate student is a non-South African resident enrolled at Stellenbosch University for degree purposes, in a formal postgraduate programme. Should the specific programme require patient contact, such an individual will also need to be registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa.
Foreign postgraduate elective student is normally a registered student of an international tertiary institution, in one of the health sciences, and who is undertaking supplementary training at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS) with the approval of the former institution. In some instances however, such a person may have already completed his/her postgraduate training and only be visiting the FMHS to gain clinical experience, but will still need to be registered with Stellenbosch University as an affiliated postgraduate student. Visits of this nature are normally limited to one year. Should the visit entail patient contact, the person involved must also be registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa.
