The biannual Fritz Ponelis memorial lecture was instituted in 2010 in memory of Prof Fritz Ponelis (1942-2009), prominent linguist and former professor in and chair of the Department of Afrikaans and Dutch. Leading linguists are invited to this prestigious event to do a presentation on a topic of their choosing.
