Welcome to Stellenbosch University

Welcome to the Department of Journalism

The Department of Journalism is conveniently situated on campus in Protea House, a renovated Edwardian building and national monument at 26 Crozier Street. Students are provided with an unparalleled working environment as far as scenic beauty and ambience are concerned, allowing them to pursue their studies with the zest it deserves.

Applications for 2018 are now closed.
You are enouraged to follow up on the status of your application if you have not received any communication from the Department by 16:00 on Monday 18 September.

Please contact the department or course convenors with questions or concerns.

Visit Stellenbosh Journalism on FB for a look inside the department.

The BAHons Journalism programme is a one year, full-time, honours course for aspiring media professionals.
Please note: The Department of Journalism at Stellenbosch University supports journalism training and education in Southern Africa. As the number of places for practical postgraduate journalism study in this region is limited, we give preference (in the honours programme) to applicants from South Africa and its neighbouring countries.

Our Master’s programme is a modular course, allowing working journalists to pursue an advanced degree. The PhD can either be done through the  Graduate School on a full-time basis or part-time.
