The 10th Postharvest Physiology and Technology Short Course of fresh horticultural crops was held on 6-8 July 2021. Although this course is well established within the Department, it was the first ever held in a real-time online space. A total of 58 delegates joined us from all over South Africa and from several African countries including Angola, Ghana, Nigeria, Botswana, Zambia, and Namibia. The delegates are all active in post-harvest industries and represented companies such as Freshmark, Fruitways and Ceres Fruit Growers. The course convener, Dr Elke Crouch, facilitated and presented with other industry leaders and ensured that the delegates are exposed to the most relevant and current information available in post-harvest physiology and technology. Industries partners with the lecturing included the Citrus Research International, A-BAR-C Services, ExperiCo, Procrop and United Exports. Hosting the course online and including practical exercises that were completed within each delegate’s own environment, allowed us to bring knowledge across in a more accessible way than thought possible. We unlocked possibilities that will greatly benefit the scope of the course and make it more inclusive.
