​​​​On 15 March 2022 we hosted a lunch event for retired lecturers from the Department of Forest and Wood Science​. Apart from the local emeriti, a few “foreigners" such as Proff. Klaus von Gadow and Gerrit van Wyk also attended the event. After a short welcome message and an overview of the current state of affairs at the department, it was time for catching up with old friends over a glass of wine. Very soon the Old Library was alive with laughter and the telling of stories from back in the day. Incidents such as the experiment where the Wood Science workshop was blown up by a student (with the help of a faulty autoclave), was re-told and still resulted in wonderment that no one was injured. The event ended with a tour of the building and facilities. Many of the emeriti still contribute toward the department in various ways and the lunch was a thank you to our old colleagues for both current and past contributions.​​
