What we do matters

Already three months into 2022 and counting. We are so grateful that our campuses are busy places again and that we see each other face to face more regularly.

My hope for 2022 is that we remember the lessons we learned during the most challenging times of the pandemic. My most important lesson is “people matter and what we do matters!"

Let us focus on building ourselves so that we are skilled, have resilience and have sound judgement to take ownership of our work. We need to prioritise our well-being. Access support services if necessary and maintain balance.

During the pandemic, Facilities Management showed that we can do a lot by collaborating. Through collaboration, we can find better solutions to challenges such as cost-saving, service improvement and environmental sustainability, to name but a few. What is more, we work together as a multi-disciplinary team and solve problems campus-wide.

I want to repeat: what we do matters. We have a direct influence on how students and staff experience our university. That is a tremendous responsibility and gives us so many opportunities to have purpose and make a difference to our world and our university.
