Stellenbosch University staff members are kindly reminded to please participate in the culture and climate survey. The aim of the survey is to compare management's intentions with staff perceptions for quality and operational purposes.

Success in our continuous quest for excellence, relevance and a significant social impact as outlined in our Institutional Intent and Strategy (IIS), depends on our people - specifically our staff and our students. In integrated reporting terminology we refer to our human capital. Therefore it is important to develop an institutional climate of understanding, appreciation, tolerance of cultural differences and beliefs, and shared values.

Why the survey?
The University strives to be an employer of choice and a leading university by continuously improving the working environment of all its staff - including academics and professional, administrative and support staff (PASS). Through the Staff Culture and Climate Survey, SU provides all staff with an opportunity to reflect on and express their views on a range of important matters affecting them as staff members. The result/findings of the survey will also provide the University leadership with an opportunity to identify and address, through a comprehensive and structured programme, key challenges adversely affecting staff.

Voluntary Participation
Please note that your participation in this survey is purely voluntary. However, without your participation, SU will not be able to address areas of concern. You are therefore requested to answer all questions as frank and truthful as possible. The survey provides you, as a staff member, with an opportunity to provide the University with important feedback on how you feel about key issues affecting you.

Confidentiality, anonymity and independence
Also bear in mind that your answers are completely confidential and anonymous. This means that the University will not be able to link answers/responses to the survey to any staff member.

The survey is being conducted on behalf of SU by an external independent service provider. The service provider has developed the online platform for the survey and also hosts the domain and website. You will need your SU staff number and an open Inetkey to be able to access the survey at the following link www.susurvey.co.za

The SU staff number is needed to verify that the person completing the survey actually works at SU. For this reason we require the SU staff number. The existing SU staff numbers are saved and verified in a separate table to the questions and answered. The  service does not create any reference to the staff number when storing the answers to the questions.

As an internet service provider, the services provider's entire business model is based on information safeguarding and data integrity. They host and manage many servers and data storage facilities for the University of Pretoria, Pretoria Society of Advocates and many law firms. Their facilities are secure and their firewalls far exceed normal Information Security Policy requirements.

The SU staff numbers are stored in a database on their server. The SU numbers are used only to verify users and allow them to start the survey. Once the survey project is finished, the SU numbers are deleted.

Line managers are requested to inform staff members who do not have access to email and/or the internet in the course of their duties, to contact Ms Adele Josias at the Human Resources division  or 021 808-2867) to make arrangements for participation in the survey.
