Military Academy drill competition

The Military Academy in its capacity as military institution and a faculty of higher learning is renowned for its broad spectrum of rich traditions. It is also an academic institution geared at the development of junior officers through academic, and most importantly, military development. On the 25th of May 2016 Military Academy held a drill competition at the Academy parade ground. The undergraduate students were competing in platoons in their respective year groups. The platoons comprised of the first, second and third year students respectively.

The main aim of the event was to revive and uphold the military traditions of the Military Academy. Furthermore, to maintain and improve the standards of drill as well as military bearing since military drill is another measure of discipline. The drill competition also fosters a culture of healthy competition needed to develop young dynamic officers.

The drill competition was facilitated by the Military Academy in conjunction with external evaluators, Warrant Officers, from SAS SALDANHA and 9 SAI BN. The winning categories comprised of the overall best platoon, best drill instructor and best year group.

MA 16, third year group, won both best drill instructor and best platoon trophies. CO T.E. Nemauluma was the recipient for the best drill instructor trophy and his platoon (Platoon 3) was the best platoon of the day. MA 17, second year group, won overall best year group and CO M.I. Jones received the trophy on their behalf.
