Dear Matie graduand
We look forward to celebrating your academic achievements with you at your graduation ceremony in December 2022.
As previously communicated, the December graduation series will take place from Monday 5 December to Friday 9 December 2022. The ceremonies will be held at the Coetzenburg centre, situated between the Danie Craven Stadium, the Sports Science Building and the Maties Gym. Click here to access the graduation schedule and group allocations.
Please arrive at the venue 30 minutes prior to the start of the ceremony and proceed directly to your allocated seat. Your seat number will be indicated on your admission ticket. Unfortunately, if you arrive after the start of the ceremony, we will not be able to accommodate you, and you will graduate in absentia.
The venue's population certificate (a legal requirement) limits the number of individuals that may be inside the centre at any given time. This compels us to issue a specific number of admission tickets per graduand.
Therefore, each graduand up to master's level will be allowed to invite two (2) guests and doctoral candidates may invite three (3) guests. Regrettably, no additional tickets can be made available.
Your ticket as well as your guests' admission tickets will be emailed to you by Thursday 1 December 2022. Please check your official @sun student account for the admission tickets, and also look in your “junk" folder. The tickets will be sent from a Quicket account.
Family and friends who are unable to attend can follow the ceremony online at http://www.sun.ac.za/english/Pages/Streaming.aspx.
Tickets can be printed or saved to a cell phone and must be shown at the door. Neither you nor your guests will be allowed into the venue without an admission ticket.
Due to the venue's population capacity, guests arriving at the Coetzenburg Centre without admission tickets will be accommodated in two overflow venues in the Sports Science Building where the graduation ceremony can be followed via live streaming.
Academic attire is available to hire/purchase on campus for all present and past graduands for photos and private events. Click here to read more about the hiring process, cost and the hiring form.
The service provider Dippenaar & Reinecke will be at the athletics refreshment kiosk (adjacent to the Coetzenburg Stadium) from 2 to 8 December 2022. Please visit this kiosk for all collections and returns during the timeslots below. Click here to view the kiosk location.

Please visit the graduation webpage for additional information in this regard.
After completion of all the ceremonies and once the outstanding fees have been settled, the relevant graduation documentation (degree certificate and academic record) will be posted to the postal address as indicated on the database of the University. Collection of the documentation is also an option (also by a third party). Graduates must please click here for third-party collection.
IMPACT OF LOADSHEDDING ON PRINTED GRADUATION PUBLICATIONS
Due to the impact of loadshedding, there is a possibility that we will not be able to have the printed graduation publications (programmes) available at the December 2022 ceremonies. However, we confirm that the e-publications (online versions) will be available in time for the ceremonies.
We are monitoring the situation and doing all we can to prevent this outcome. If we are not able to have the printed publications at the ceremonies, we will ensure that you do get a copy of the printed publication afterwards. We will communicate the relevant arrangements with you as soon as we have more clarity on the situation.
FACULTY OF MEDICINE AND HEALTH SCIENCES (FMHS) PLEDGE CEREMONY
Two face-to-face pledge ceremonies for the FMHS undergraduate programmes are scheduled for Monday 5 December 2022 on the Tygerberg campus. For more information regarding the pledge ceremonies please click here.
You will be offered the chance to have professional graduation photos taken. Contact the University's official graduation photographers – currently Stellenbosch Centre for Photographic Services (SCPS) – to make a booking.
We wish you a joyous graduation day!
