We are delighted to bring you the first event in our public lecture series, titled "(Not) Picking on Colonial Wounds: Imagining Repair," featuring the distinguished scholar, Pumla D. Gqola.
About Pumla D. Gqola
Pumla D. Gqola is a highly respected academic and author, currently serving as a Professor of Literary and Cultural Studies and holding the DSI-NRF SARChI Chair in African Feminist Imagination at Nelson Mandela University. Her extensive work spans groundbreaking studies on slave memory in South Africa, the intersections of gender, patriarchy, and racial capitalism, and rape culture. Prof. Gqola's literary contributions have earned her the prestigious 2016 Alan Paton Award for her work "Rape: A South African Nightmare." She is also renowned for her insightful writings on topics such as Black Consciousness, African and postcolonial feminisms, African and Caribbean writers, South African visual and musical artists, and post-apartheid public culture. Most recently, she was honoured with an honorary doctorate (Doctor of Literature, honoris causa) from Stellenbosch University, recognizing her remarkable contributions and their significance to society.
