The annual Stellenbosch University (SU) Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) conference will take place on 31 October and 1 November, with pre-conference workshops on 30 October 2023.  We are excited to announce that the conference will be an in-person event, hosted at the Stellenbosch Institute for Advanced Study (STIAS).

This year's conference theme is “Academic renewal towards transformative teaching-learning-assessment in service of society". This year's keynote speaker is Professor Chrissie Boughey. Prof Boughey is a retired (2019) Rhodes University Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Academic and Student Affairs.

We are happy to announce an extra pre-conference workshop. The Language Centre presents, ‘Building communities through multilingualism: A look at academic spaces’. The aim of the workshop is to find ways together to manage language-related classroom-based scenarios holistically, with a focus on values, guided by a multilingual mindset. This workshop will be very similar to the 2023 Language Day workshop. We follow a collaborative, non-prescriptive approach, thereby creating a space for you to share what you are already doing in the classroom in terms of multilingualism and get new ideas from colleagues in similar contexts.

If you are interested, please visit the SoTL website for more information and a guide on how to change your existing registration, if necessary. Registrations close on 17 October. For any immediate inquiries, please contact Magriet de Villiers at
