Abstract:

Supply chain planning (SCP) is one of the key supply chain management processes businesses use for anticipating the future demand for products (including marketing and sales aspirations) and planning/balancing the requirements for materials and components, production, and logistics resources. SCP largely determines/influences how a supply chain will operate and is all about pro-active, informed decision making.

Building the required skills for SCP even on a postgraduate level is, however, quite a challenge without sound business understanding/context. Using "The Fresh Connection" (an innovative web-based business simulation game) in an experiential learning fashion helps to close this gap in teaching and learning related to SCP. Experiential learning is an engaged learning process whereby students "learn by doing" and by reflecting on the experience that can include, but are not limited to, business simulation games, visual data analytics in context, hands-on laboratory experiments, practicums, and field exercises.
