The theme of morning is captured in the hashtag #Isee, which enables students to see:

  • Stellenbosch University's commitment to social impact as an institutional strategic priority.

  • Critical real-life challenges as it relates to the Sustainable Development Goals.

  • An active display of the power of a network in driving social impact initiatives.

“Universities have a social responsibility to use their talents for the benefit of those in society that are not as privileged as ourselves; to develop well-rounded thought leaders who have broadened their horizons and integrate what they have learnt and experienced back into society" says Renee Hector-Kannemeyer, Head of Matie Community Service and Deputy Director:  Division for Social Impact.

Founder Vere Shaba of Greendesign Africa will provide a closer look at driving meaningful social impact through social entrepreneurship, followed by presentations of the planned SDG/2063 Hub in the Stellenbosch University International Office, LaunchLab and a SI competition facilitated by ForGood, a national virtual volunteerism platform.

The social impact morning will be concluded by an activity called students in action, where all newcomers in residence as well as private student organisations (PSOs) have an opportunity to engage in practical community activities of their choice in both Stellenbosch and Tygerberg campuses respectively.

The morning enables students to experience SU's commitment to collaborate with stakeholders from the public and private sectors as well as community members in addressing real-life social challenges and changing society for the better.
