In celebration of Women's Month, the Endler Concert series is proud to present the Fiesta award winning Stellenbosch University (SU) Jazz Band led by Felicia Lesch on Friday 16 August at 8pm in the Endler Hall.
The SU Jazz Band this year celebrates its 10th anniversary and has over the years gained a reputation for their vibrant and energetic performances. This concert features South African jazz singer Anneli Kamfer alongside international South African jazz singer Tutu Puoane. Puoane won the Old Mutual Jazz Encounters award for the Cape Region in 2000, was the Standard Bank Young Artist for Jazz winner in 2004 and is a multiple SAMA award winner. Anneli, a past student of the Certificate Programme and former singer with the SU Jazz Band, was a band member of Manouche and is now pursuing a solo career.
The SU Jazz Band is one of the ensembles formed by the Certificate Programme which was created to equip members of the broader community with skills to read music and play an instrument at a level enabling them to embark on a BMus or Diploma programme at tertiary level.
This concert features well-loved standards such as Letta Mbulu's Macongo, the ever-popular swing tune It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing, and fans will get to hear Tutu singing her composition Mpho – something the band is looking forward to performing with the composer herself. Anneli will be doing her soul-strut in Strong enough and other tunes.
The programme also features a celebration of South African Jazz standards, and the compositions and arrangements of Sibongile Khumalo, Mike Campbell and Darryl Andrews.
Tickets for R80 (regular) and R50 (pensioners, students and scholars) are available now through Computicket and at the door one hour before the show.
The SU Jazz Band will also perform in the Endler Hall on Sunday 18 August at 4:30pm, and all proceeds go to the Stellenbosch Work Centre for Adult Persons With Disabilities.
