​​Bonang Mohale, CEO of Business Leadership South Africa (BLSA), is a powerhouse and leadership guru behind the growth of some major South African and multinational companies and on 1 March 2019 , he will be sharing his knowledge and expertise with our alumni as part of the 2019 Homecoming Weekend. 

His talk, which is co-hosted by the University of Stellenbosch Business School and Stellenbosch University Alumni Relations, will focus on Will the South African economy recover? New roles for businesses in the South African public sphere.


Mohale is known for building up extensive experience in various leadership roles, including as Vice President and Chairman of Shell downstream South Africa (Pty) Ltd, Shell South Africa Refinery (Pty) Ltd, and the South African Petroleum Refinery. At Shell South Africa he oversaw oil, chemical, aviation, and marine and lubricants global businesses. At the same time, he  was also operationally responsible for retail, fuels and bitumen, supply and distribution classes of businesses, including Finance, Legal, Human Resources, Safety and Transformation. He was also the Managing Director of OTIS, which is the largest and oldest elevator company in the world, and the CEO of the integrated facilities management company Drake & Scull FM SA (Pty) Ltd.

Mohale has been involved in the Black Management Forum (BMF) for over 33 years and since the 1980s has been a vocal and active proponent of transformation. He has received numerous awards in recognition of the contribution he has made to the business world and building South Africa. These include, amongst others, the Momentum Friendship Blazer for being the first South African Nation Building Champion in 2015 and as both the Country and SADC Regional Titans – Building the Nation awards in the 2014 CEO Magazine Awards. In 2001, he received the Presidential Award for Servanthood in South African Industry and the Economic Empowerment of Previously Disadvantaged Individuals.

Mohale’s talk will be held at the Century City Convention Centre, with registration starting at 08:00. The talk will start  at 09:00. The event is free, however, seating is limited so be sure to book your seat immediately.
