​​Simulations and Gamification Techniques in the training of Cyber Specialists/Warriors

The workshop includes the following

1. Cyber Simulation Exercises both government-focused and business-focused, centered on a set of events related to possible dam breaches due to cyber-kinetic attack and disinformation/information operations. Interactive exercise.

2. Gamification demonstration to train and develop different skills sets within a cyber-operational environment. Includes incident management and incident response.

3. Discussion on building and expanding national cyber capabilities in Africa.

About our Presenters

Prof. Elmarie Biermann is the Director of the Cyber Security Institute, providing services and training within the Cyber Security domain. Obtaining a PhD in Computer Security at the University of South Africa enabled her to gain specialized security experience in both the private and academic sectors. She currently holds an Adjunct Professorship with the Cape Peninsula University in Technology in Cape Town to assist in growing Security as a research field in the Nano-satellite environment, as well as an Extraordinary Associate Professorship in the Department Military Strategy, Faculty of Military Sciences at the University of Stellenbosch.


Dr. Bryson Payne is an author, TEDx speaker, tenured professor and founding Director of the Center for Cyber Operations Education at the University of North Georgia, an NSA-DHS Center for Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense. He holds multiple certifications, including Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP®), Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH), and GIAC GPEN.
