Henri Fouché (PhD, Tshwane University of Technology) is a National Research Foundation (NRF) C1-rated researcher in Humanities/Social Sciences. He graduated from the Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) with a Masters in 2003 (dissertation entitled: Partnership policing in the Wierda Bridge policing area) and Doctors in 2006 (thesis entitled: Policing piracy and armed robbery of ships in South Africa's territorial waters and contiguous zone).  He lectured at Technikon Pretoria and TUT for nine years, and UNISA for 5 years on the investigation of crime and contemporary crime issues. His research focus is on policing crime in the maritime domain and he is internationally recognised as a proponent of the law enforcement approach to dealing with crime in the maritime domain.

Prof Fouche received a scholarship for studies in Criminal Law and Sea Piracy at the Max Planck Institute for Foreign and International Criminal Law (MPICC) in Freiburg, Germany in 2009.  He was a guest researcher at the MPICC during December 2010 and is listed in the International Maritime Organisation (lMO) roster of experts and consultants.

Francois Vreÿ (PhD, Stellenbosch University) is a National Research Foundation (NRF) C1-rated researcher in Humanities/Social Sciences. He graduated from Stellenbosch University with a Masters in 1995 and Doctors in 2006 (thesis entitled: An analysis of the debate on alternative military futures: Explaining alternative futures for the SANDF).  He is a former lecturer in the Military Strategy Department, Faculty of Military Science, Stellenbosch University and currently the research coordinator for SIGLA.  His primary research focus is on irregular warfare and the rise of the maritime security threat landscape off Africa.
Prof Vreÿ also lecturers at the University of Namibia, Military Colleges such as the South African National Defence College and the Royal Danish Defence College (RDDC). He is a former editor of the accredited journal Scientia Militaria: South African Journal of Military Studies and together with Prof Thomas Mandrup (RDDC) runs the South-African-Danish On Strategy series of conferences – the fifth of which took place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia during September 2016 and amongst others, culminated in the book publication : The African Standby Force: Quo Vadis.
