Research, Innovation and Postgraduate Studies, as one of our core functions, supports three strategic priorities: broadening access to SU, sustaining the momentum of excellence, and enhancing our societal impact. At SU we not only strive for excellence in research but also towards social relevance in ever-changing contexts.
The environment of the Deputy Vice Chancellor: Research, Innovation and Postgraduate Studies (Research Development and Library and Information Service) place emphasis on the promotion of research outputs and innovation at SU to ensure that in the long run, it builds on its frontrunner-status. Furthermore, products and services are developed that can bring about economic and/or social improvement in the country. The University's knowledge base is strengthened by the expansion of existing and the creation of new multi-disciplinary research entities, while the establishment of strategic research partnerships help the SU to be financially sustainable. A valuable contribution is also made towards the realisation of SU's transformation and diversity goals through the development of a new generation of academics, growth in the number of postgraduate students and an increase in the number of international students that come to study at the SU.
