This Chair studies the processes that shape the earth via experimentation on rock materials at the extremes of pressure and temperature found deep within the crust and mantle of the planet. The research is using a variety of special autoclaves in the experimental petrology laboratory in the Department of Earth Sciences, the only laboratory of its kind in Africa.
