During the inception of the PRASA Chair, one of the root causes was identified as insufficient training. Besides the formal short courses presented by Stellenbosch University, it was decided that the PRASA Chair should play a major role in presenting Soft Skills training courses. The target group is the middle management (depot management), whereafter the Centre of Technologies (COT's) within PRASA, will train the rest of the employees.
The first set of short courses was identified in 2013 and the PRASA Chair developed these courses for PRASA:
- Basic Project Management.
- Professional Communication.
- Facility Layout.
- Reliability, Availability, Maintainability and Safety (RAMS).
During 2014 and 2015, the first three courses were presented on a national basis. The RAMS course will be presented by an identified industry partner.
Feedback from the participants of the courses indicates that further courses need to be developed, which will include:
- Practical Project Management.
- Visual Manangemnt
- Asset Management.
- Problem Solving
- ECSA Mentorship
