The Chair, situated in the Department of Information Science, will focus on the incorporation of more artificial intelligence research into courses and it will also create a student pipeline for the CSIR. It will double the Department of Information Science at SU's research capacity and allow for the allocation of bursaries to undergraduate and postgraduate students. The application of artificial intelligence research can be found in defense, service delivery and information and communications technology.
