ATLAS.ti

​​​​​​​Description​

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​This workshop is for SU Master's and Doctoral students who want to learn more about how ATLAS.ti can be used during their literature review stage and for those who plan to work with​ qualitative data analysis, like interview or focus group transcripts, field notes, reports,​ images or videos. ATLAS.ti is a computer software that supports the process of analyzing such data​.

Course outcomes

  • To know the difference between inductive and deductive coding.

  • To know how to code documents and photos using ATLAS.ti.

  • To know how to code open-ended questions in survey data using ATLAS.ti.

  • To know how to retrieve quotations from qualitative data sources using ATLAS.ti.

  • To know how to develop a WORD CLOUD using ATLAS.ti.

  • To know how to develop a frequency table from coding of data using ATLAS.ti.

  • To know how to present qualitative data effectively using ATLAS.ti.

Language

The workshop is presented in English.

Cost

This workshop opportunity is funded by the Postgraduate Office. There is no cost involved for registered SU postgraduates who sign up and attend, however, in the case of late cancellations or non-attendance, applicants will be responsible for the full workshop fee since late cancellations and non-attendance have considerable cost implications for our office.​​ ​ 

Target audience

SU postgraduate Master's and doctoral students working on their literature review and/or qualitative data analysis.

All applications will be reviewed and successful applicants will be notified. Please note that we will confirm your successful registration on receipt. Booking is essential and places are limited. The following dates are tentative - we will notify you if anything changes.

Online course format

The online ATLAS.ti workshop takes place over three days. Course content will be made available via SUNLearn. Participants will then have time to work through the course material and exercises on SUNLearn and ask questions during the live instruction sessions via MS Teams each day. Please note the facilitator will be using a PC computer to conduct the training. We will provide MAC manuals to supplement your training. However, the facilitator will be limited in the support she can provide if you are using a MAC computer.

The online feedback via Microsoft Teams consists of two compulsory sessions per day:
First session: 09:00-11:00 
Second session: 14:00-16:00
