Alumni
Welcome to Stellenbosch University

About Us

Engagement and cultivation

Currently, the University engages with more than 120 000 alumni and friends across the globe. We host regular events – local and abroad – where alumni are given the opportunity to catch up with the latest news and developments in their faculties, while reaffirming their ties with the institution. Events take the shape of networking opportunities, fundraisers, thought-provoking panel discussions – all showcasing the excellence with which the name Stellenbosch University has become synonymous. We also lend support to faculty and class reunions for old friends and classmates to reconnect. These reunions also include those hosted by residences and societies.

Communication

There are a number of ways in which we will communicate with you. Social networks are a great way to keep in touch – you can sit and chat to someone even when they are halfway around the globe. The Alumni Relations team wants you stay connected to your intellectual home – so get chatting on one of our social networks! For updated news and publications, visit our news page.

Volunteer Management

We will be expanding our volunteer opportunities for alumni in 2012, so watch this space!

In the meantime, our first volunteer programme, Our Alumni Circle Stellenbosch (OACS), was launched in August 2011 and is targeted at connecting recent alumni (those who have graduated since the year 2000) with the vision, work and community of the university to promote continued alumni participation and involvement.

The OACS committee consists of a chairperson, vice-chairperson and a maximum of 15 members who volunteer their time and work closely with the alumni team to engage recent alumni and to build a culture of participation and giving. They also serve as ambassadors of the University by attending events in various regions and advocating for philanthropic support.

Early student engagement

We are strengthening our links with current students through the SRC, residences, societies, etc. since we know that happy students, make happy alumni! We will be launching our first Class Gift programme with final year students in 2012 to begin cultivating the habit of giving.

Alumni giving

The alumni giving programme is aimed at augmenting the participation of annual/regular gifts from alumni, staff and friends of the University. It's focussed on increasing the number of alumni who give, as well as the amount of funds raised.  Appeals are aimed at specific smaller groups of alumni, based on their affinity and loyalty within the University community.

Currently we have 1049 donors – and only 0.8% are alumni.  Each of these gifts makes a difference!

If  2 000 alumni each donate only  R100 per month, we will receive R2,4 million – enough to give all inclusive bursaries to 80 students per year.

For more information about how you can get involved, contact the alumni office.
