Martin Butler appointed as new MBA head for USB

​​Martin Butler started his term as USB's new head of the MBA program yesterday (6 June). Butler was previously the head of USB's Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management and Administration.

"It is a real privilege to be allowed to build upon the foundations laid by my predecessors with the USB MBA going from strength to strength. I am especially enthusiastic about the exceptional new staff added to the USB in the previous couple of years, as well as those that will join us within the next few months, to grow the core faculty but also better reflect the realities of South Africa.

"With interesting challenges in education and the USB, including launching an MBA that uses our pioneering synchronous virtual learning 'glocal' classroom in 2017, it is exciting times to be delivering a world class MBA. The USB, and the MBA programme in particular, is also go through various rounds of reaccreditation in 2017. We also have some exhilarating new international destinations lined up for 2017 as well as innovative electives to keep our offering fresh and relevant.

"Mostly, I am grateful for the opportunity to keep engaging in our lecture rooms with quality students that we attract to the USB from across the world to discuss, debate and address management challenges in our country, continent and beyond," he said.


Prof Nicolene Wesson, associate professor in accounting and taxation, takes over the responsibilities from Butler as new head of the Postgraduate Diploma in Business Management and Administration.

"I am enthusiastic about the new role assigned to me as programme head of this internationally accredited programme. I look forward to serve our students currently enrolled in the programme and to welcome all prospective students. I am also grateful to be part of the USB's continuous strive to exceed stakeholder expectations!" she says.
