The Circle

When we think of bronze monuments and statues, we normally associate them with towering statues, larger-than-life figures and idolised/immortalised figures to which no one can relate. They are also positioned in heroic poses that give them a sense of grandeur, isolated in time and space. This artwork is different as it brings many of our historical or present/future women leaders together on the floor in a seating position as if in discussion or casual conversation with one another. It thus symbolizes the need for humility and to practically sit down and listen to one another. All women are represented in the figures, they symbolise the future of our nation and leadership in the past and present as well as leaders to come. By placing the sculptures here, it becomes part of the day-to-day conversations that take place in this space.
