Department of Industrial Psychology
Industrial Psychology focuses on the optimal development and utilisation of human resources in the work environment. The Department - the oldest department of Industrial Psychology in South Africa - has developed a tradition of academic excellence and strives to present top quality graduates to all sectors of the South African economy. The Department would like to see its graduates addressing the prevailing business-related people management issues in such a way that they will earn the trust, respect and appreciation of top management and contribute to the development of the rich people potential of South Africa.
Professional registration
The BCom (Industrial Psychology) and BComHons (Industrial Psychology) lead to registration as Psychometrist and the MCom (Industrial Psychology) to registration as Industrial Psychologist with the Professional Board for Psychology of the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). The postgraduate programmes in Human Resource Management comply with the regulations of the South African Board of Personnel Practice (SABPP).
In addition, the Department offers a new
Postgraduate Diploma in Strategic Human Resource Management (PGDip Strategic HRM) that focuses on the strategic competencies of HR leaders in delivering business value in pursuit of the overall business goals of an organisation. The programme has been designed with inputs from top HR Directors, business executives and thought leaders, thereby ensuring a cutting-edge approach to HR best practices aligned to the realities and complexities of the new world of work. The PG Diploma offers a development opportunity to graduates in any field seeking to augment their qualifications with core HR Management knowledge and skills as well as to examine the strategic application of the HR function in organisations. The introduction of this postgraduate qualification further facilitates the upward career mobility of middle managers in various disciplines requiring people management skills.

MCom in Industrial Psychology - Modular
The MCom Industrial Psychology is presented in modular format in English (part-time over two years). Students in the modular course visit the Stellenbosch Campus for three blocks over five weeks per year.
Candidates applying for admission to
PhD studies should be in possession of a master's degree in Industrial Psychology or in Human Resource Management, with a final mark of at least 65%. Click
