Webinar
Scoping maritime crime, risks and responses in the Western Indian Ocean and the South Atlantic
Aim
The webinar aims to point out maritime crime off Africa by highlighting broader trends, current threats and expected future risks. The geographic focus is on the Western Indian Ocean, and Southern Atlantic and include views from the UNODC, Brazil and the United Arab Emirates on risks to trade and good order at sea. Brazil, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates hold membership of the BRICS+ grouping of states that is bound to play a growing role in maritime affairs. Given its declared focus on trade, growth and development, the BRICS+ ambitions ultimately become a function of maritime safety and security as the guarantee for the global trade regime.
