Clinical Mycobacteriology and Epidemiology (CLIME) Group

Commercial and Contract Research

Our group has a record of accomplishment of working with both local and international commercial and non-governmental organisation partners. This typically involves recruiting and characterising large cohorts of patients (including pulmonary and extrapulmonary TB suspects, patients with HIV, and patients with drug-resistant TB), collecting specimens, and microbiological and clinical characterisation of these cohorts. The group is also able to assist in the evaluation of new diagnostic or clinical products, provide scientific input, design and implement both clinical and laboratory protocols, and publish findings.

CLIME favours working with commercial partners, who are able to take advantage of the high local burden of disease, strong clinical research and laboratory infrastructure, and relatively cheap costs in South Africa. If you are a company or organization interested in working with CLIME, please contact the group investigator (Grant Theron – gtheron@sun.ac.za).
