Mission

The Department of African Languages is committed to the

1. ideal of quality teaching and research in the African languages.
2. creation of an environment in which the knowledge of African languages can be discovered, shared, transfer and applied to the advantage of the community
• ​locally and wid​er in Africa.

Vision

The objectives of the Department of African Languages are to:

1. receive national and international acknowledgement for quality teaching and research in the African languages;
2. produce students who can contribute to the development of Africa through their skills;
3. fulfil the educational needs as regards African languages of the local communities in Africa;
4. make a contribution to the cultural, economic and social development of the people of Africa through the use of the African languages in all sectors;
5. develop an information society through African language teaching and research.

1. yeyona ndawo iphambili yokufundisa nokwenza uphando olusemgangathweni ngeelwimi zase-Afrika.
2. kudalwe indawo apho ulwazi lweelwimi zase-Afrika lunokufunyanwa khona, kwabelwane ngalo, lugqithiselwe kwaye lusetyenziswe ukuze kuxhamle uluntu- nama-Afrika ephela.

1. ukufumana ukwamkelwa kuzwe lonke nakwihlabathi jikelele ngokufundisa okusemgangathweni nophando ngeelwimi zesiNtu;
2. ukuvelisa abafundi abanokuba negalelo kuphuhliso lwe-Afrika ngezakhono zabo;
3. ukufezekise iimfuno zemfundo ngokusingise kwiilwimi zase-Afrika zoluntu lwase-Afrika;
4. ukwenza igalelo kuphuhliso lwenkcubeko, lwezoqoqosho nentlalontle yoluNtu lwase-Afrika ngokusetyenziswa kweelwimi zase-Afrika kuwo onke amacandelo;
5. ukuphuhlisa uluntu ngolwazi ngokufundiswa nangophando lweelwimi zase-Afrika.​
