The DST/NRF Centre of Excellence in Food Security is a virtual centre hosted by the University of the Western Cape and University of Pretoria. The CoE consists of national and international experts on issues pertaining to food and nutritional security. Prof. Kennedy Dzama is one of the lead researchers that form part of the CoE that was established in 2014. The CoE conduct research in four thematic areas (i.e. food creation, food distribution, food consumption, and food governance), with projects that involve transdisciplinary research on food and nutritional security issues. The CoE follows a partnership approach by building purposive strategic relationships that recognise the underlying causes of food insecurity, and investigate the policies, technologies, interventions, and products that are required to enable or promote access to affordable and nutritious food in an ecological, economic, social and politically sustainable way.
