We have grouped the different ADA Courses into phases of the PhD to help you choose the capacity development option that best suits your needs into five categories: ​

Which course is right for me? 
The Summer School courses are aimed at a target audience of current and prospective PhD candidates, supervisors and researchers across all disciplines. We have grouped the different ADA Courses (programme) into phases of the PhD to help you choose the capacity development option that best suits your needs into five categories: 

Preparing for your PhD and research journey:
  • Preparing for your PhD: Considerations and planning your research project (Wk 1)
  • Good research practice: Research ethics and beyond (Saturday)
  • Grant writing fundamentals (Saturday)
  • The Productive PhD: Creating structure, gaining clarity & overcoming blocks (Wk 2)
Develop my research skills:
  • Design and analysis of experimental data (Wk 1)
  • Introduction to Quantitative research design and methodology (Wk 1)
  • Introduction to Qualitative research design and methodology (Wk 1)
  • Advanced Qualitative research design and methodology NEW! (Wk 2)
  • Mixed Methods research design (Wk 2)
  • Grounded Theory: Methodology, principles and practices NEW! (Saturday)
Analyse my research data:
  • MAXQDA Software for Qualitative and Mixed Methods analysis NEW!  (Saturday)
  • Essentials for R (Wk 1)
  • Data management and working with Quantitative Data NEW!  (Wk 1)
  • Introduction to SPSS (Wk 2)
  • Introduction to ATLAS.ti for qualitative data analysis (Wk 2)
Disseminate my research:
  • Confident public speaking (Saturday) 
  • Fundamentals of Publishing (Saturday)
  • Scientific communication: How to write an article, present a poster, design slides and give an oral presentation (Wk 2)
  • Writing and publishing an article during the final phases of the PhD (Wk 2)

You can only attend one course per week, as they take place at the same time. Each week-long course takes place at the same time from 08:30 - 16:30 daily and  Friday 8:30 - 13:00. The Saturday courses also run concurrently.
