SACEMA invites applications from prospective MSc candidates who are interested in joining the SACEMA Masters Degree Programme for 2022

Deadline: 31 March 2021 now extended to 14 May 2021. 

The South African Centre for Epidemiological Modelling and Analysis (SACEMA) is a national DSI-NRF Centre of Excellence. Our mission is to improve health in South Africa and across the continent through epidemiological modelling and analysis.

The core of our research programme consists of four research themes within two broader research areas, i.e., biomarkers, drug targets, and diagnostics; transmission, dynamics, and interventions.

A background in quantitative methods is required, and interdisciplinary experience is welcome. Previous exposure to SACEMA's core research areas will be an advantage, and priority will be given to applicants demonstrating high motivation and affinities for SACEMA's mission and goals.

  • ​Shortlisted candidates will be:
    • aligned with a SACEMA-affiliated supervisor and a project that falls within one of our research themes.
    • required to apply for funding on the NRF online application system using a unique NRF funding code*.             
    • required to apply to study at Stellenbosch University for the duration of the Masters Degree (2 years).

 *Submission of your application does not automatically qualify you for funding.

Faantjie en Lettie Pretorius Bursary: Third year students in Statistics and Mathematical Statistics

To all third year students in Mathematical Statistics and Statistics

Prof Faantjie Pretorius was the first professor in Statistics and founder of the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science at the University of Stellenbosch. His heirs sponsor a bursary to a third year student in Statistics or Mathematical Statistics. Merit and the financial situation of an applicant are considered in the allocation of the bursary.

NRF Scholarship for Honours studies 2021

Some important points to consider:

  • Students must achieve 65% in their final year to accept the award
  • Full cost -and partial cost scholarships are available
  • NSFAS/ISFAP recipients do not have to undergo a financial means test and should attach their student fee statement instead.
  • No late applications will be considered
