Call for leadership: new co-ed student community

24 September 2029

Dear Student

In a recent communication to the student community, Prof Arnold Schoonwinkel (Vice-Rector: Learning and Teaching) shared the news of a new co-ed student residence community that will be established at Stellenbosch University (SU) in 2021.

Current students who will be enrolled at SU next year and who are interested in joining, developing and establishing this new living and learning community through leadership involvement should take note of the application process outlined below.

The following positions need to be filled:

  • Prim (1 position)
  • Vice-Prims (2 positions)
  • House Committee members (8 positions)
  • Mentors (13 positions, including the Head Mentor, who will be appointed from the group of appointed mentors.)

The process of appointment of these student leaders will be conducted by a committee from the Centre for Student Communities, comprised of students and staff.

To apply for one or more of the positions, please follow these links below:

  • Prim – click here to apply by Tuesday, 29 September 2020 at 23:45.

  • House Committee member – click here to apply by Monday, 12 October 2020 at 23:45.
  • Mentors – click here to apply by Monday, 19 October 2020 at 23:45.

Previous leadership experience and a favourable academic record will be advantageous to your application.

This new, undergraduate co-ed residence is located centrally on the Stellenbosch campus, and has room for 90 female and 68 male students, including 90 newcomer students in 2021. This residence will play a critical part in the creation of an inclusive living and learning community that will embrace SU's shared vision and values of diversity, equity and mutual respect. In addition to having an academic qualification at graduation, our students in this new community will be encouraged to develop graduate attributes that will prepare them for a dynamic career and a lifetime of impactful citizenship on society at large.

If you are interested in joining this new student community as a resident (and not in a leadership capacity as explained above), please complete this form. Take note that the outcome of your application will only be communicated in November. No placements can be guaranteed.

We want to ensure that each and every Matie has a truly transformative student experience at a thriving Stellenbosch University. We are excited by this opportunity to create a new residence that embraces the full diversity of the student body, enabling us to strive for excellence through diversity.

If you have any enquiries about the application process for the leadership positions, please contact ssg@sun.ac.za.

Kind regards
