Faculty Trolley Challenge

The Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences is participating in the university-wide trolley challenge to raise funds and collect donations of non-perishable food stuff, toiletries and sanitary products for students who need it.

The Faculty Trolley Challenge is an ongoing fundraising initiative to encourage the staff, students, and alumni of each faculty to support Bridge the Gap, the University's fund that aims to remove the obstacles that prevent Maties from obtaining their degrees. There are several initiatives under the umbrella of Bridge the Gap, including #Move4Food, the Tygerberg Pantry Project, #EndPeriodPoverty, etc.

With staff and students' help, SU's social workers will be armed with enough food parcels, toiletry packs and emergency funds to assist students in the last quarter of this year and the first quarter of next year. These are the peak periods of need amongst students.

At the same time, EMS will be competing with other faculties to see who can collect the most donations. As the biggest faculty, EMS has a great opportunity to win this challenge!

The Faculty has two donation boxes: one is in the foyer of the CGW Schumann Building and one in the Van der Sterr Building (near the coffee kiosk next to the board about SU's vision).

All faculty donations will be tallied at the end of Giving Day 2022, i.e. on 7 October 2022.

Said the Dean, Prof Ingrid Woolard, “We would like to appeal to you to participate in this project to demonstrate our care and support for struggling SU students."
