The Centre's first workshop event: The Science of Food Safety

​Where science, academia and industry meet. 

On the 26th February, the Centre for Food Safety hosted its first workshop event to the public. About 100 individuals from the food, hygiene and related industries and academia gathered together at the Department of Food Science at Stellenbosch University to share their knowledge and learn more about food safety.

​The Centre's ​international advisory board members gave lecture's on food safety, Prof Mike Uyttendaele (Ghent University, Belgium), Prof Ste​​phen Forsythe​ (retired professor from Nottingham Trent University, United Kingdom) and Prof Wilhelm Ho​l​​t​zapfel​ (President of the International Com​​​​mission on Food Microbiology and Hygiene​​). These lectures were follwed by quick 5 minute power talks given by various companies in the food industry.

One of the Centre's goals is to educate and raise awareness to support and increase the food safety culture in South Africa and to translate food safety science and research to ensure tangible impact throughout the food industry, government and consumers.
