The winter edition of the Talent Development Programme was hosted at the nine provincial centres from 24 – 28 June 2018. The Talent Development Programme (TDP) is a joint project between the Department of Science and Technology and Stellenbosch University Centre for Pedagogy (SUNCEP).  It is a prestigious residential and academic enrichment intervention that aims to bridge the gap between school-leavers and universities.

A total of 320 Grade 12 learners attended the programme (40 per province).  Participants followed an academically rich programme with more than 32 hours dedicated to in-class activities in both Mathematics and Physical Sciences which was delivered by a dedicated team of educational specialists. The foundational skills programme included a live broadcast from Stellenbosch University's Centre for Learning and Teaching, themed - “Time management during exam preparations", which was presented by Dr Sharon Malan. The TDP Career Guidance Coordinators each visited a centre for three days to assist participants with career guidance and research, university applications, bursary applications and general career development skills. Learners received resource packs and kept warm in their new softshell jackets. Ongoing support is delivered between contact sessions through the Siyavula online platform.

We would like to thank the dedicated teams at each centre for their continued commitment to the success of the programme. Also a big THANK YOU to all nine provincial education departments.
