Africa Day was observed on 25 May. In celebration of this important day on our calendar, Prof Wim de Villiers, Rector and Vice-Chancellor, and Prof Hester Klopper, Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Strategy, Global and Corporate Affairs, wrote articles in which they focused on key issues of interest to the continent.
Prof De Villiers emphasised the need to create a dynamic educational environment that equips students from South Africa and the rest of Africa with the skills and knowledge necessary to thrive in the 21st century. In her piece, Prof Klopper pointed out how the African Union (AU) and the European Union (EU) Innovation Agenda can help to address some of the most pressing challenges facing the continent, including but not limited to education, health, climate change, governance, and sustainable development.
