During the month of October, the UPSS will host online webinars that will focus on mental health, facilitated by US staff specialising in the fields of psychiatry, psychology as well as sexuality. Some of the topics that will be discussed include post-graduate support, gender and how it is reflected in popular music, practical self-care, and rethinking resilience in the era of COVID-19.
Topic 1: Post Graduate support group (Masters and PhD) Session 1 with SU Counselling Psychologist, Nordlind Fouche
Description: Making time for reflection is vital for long-term success. This brief therapeutic group process is aimed at supporting postgraduate students (Masters and PhD) where various themes and concerns are shared and explored in a safe space.

Topic 2: Rethinking resilience in the COVID-19 era with Prof Renata Schoeman, practicing psychiatrist and also Head of the MBA in Health Care Leadership programme at USB
Description: Resilience can be defined as the ability to adapt after experiencing setbacks and difficult life events whilst maintaining positive mental health.

Topic 4: Interactive meet-up with CSCD Psychologists and Counsellor: Come reflect with us about Practical Self-care with Liani Joubert , Elmien Sinclair, Elmarie Kruger, Deviné Kamalie
Description: Four panellists from the CSCD will facilitate a discussion aimed at helping participants making practical sense of self-care and how to apply it to their own wellbeing within the student context of SU.

Topic 5: Gender and how it is reflected in popular music with Kaylon Weppelman, Equality Unit Programme Coordinator: HIV and Sexualities
Description: The session will explore music and lyrics through a psychosocial lens which is understanding how music influences our perceptions and behaviours. The discussion will focus how gender and sexuality is portrayed in popular music and how it in turn influences our own perceptions in society.
