Social Impact and Community Outreach

At the core of our vision, we aim to ensure that patients with DM receive quality care at primary health care level. We strive to provide primary health care providers with the necessary knowledge and skill to offer good care at a community-based level.

We provide teaching of nursing practitioners and doctors at primary and secondary care sites, through presentations and Q&A sessions, focusing mainly on diabetes but with scope that extends to all areas of endocrinology. We offer in-service training events at TBH intermittently.

We also advise on management of challenging patients, in both an in- and outpatient setting, in both the public and private settings, to enable practitioners to care for these patients at community level.
We are seen as leaders in the area of diabetes in pregnancy.

We are leaders in obesity management in South Africa, at present contributing to the first ever management guideline and providing guidance through the SA Metabolic Medicine and Surgery Society (SAMMSS), and providing training for facilities to accredited as obesity care units.
We are active members of the Society for Endocrinology, Metabolism and Diabetes of SA (SEMDSA).
