The Stellenbosch University Postgraduate Scholarship Programme (PSP) is one of our flagship scholarship programmes. It aims to support our vision of becoming a leading research-intensive institution by supporting a pool of emerging research talent amongst our postgraduate students. All scholarship awards will be made on the condition that the applicant meets all the requirements of the scholarship as well as the admission requirements of the relevant degree programme. 

Kindly note there are two separate application processes – the application for postgraduate study (degree programme) and the application for this scholarship programme.

Students pursuing postgraduate studies in Honours, Master's or Doctoral degrees in 2023 may apply per the faculty criteria provided in the call document.

​Faantjie and Lettie Pretorius Bursary

Third year students in Mathematical Statistics and Statistics

Prof Faantjie Pretorius was the first professor in Statistics and founder of the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Science at the University of Stellenbosch. His heirs sponsor a bursary to a third year student in Statistics or Mathematical Statistics. Merit and the financial situation of an applicant are considered in the allocation of the bursary. ​NRF Scholarship for Honours studies 2022

The NRF invites appl​ications for students who intend to register for an Honours degree in 2022. Interested students should please visit the Postgraduate Funding Office's website here for more information. Queries can be forwarded to or

Some important points to consider:

  • Students must achieve 65% in their final year to accept the award
  • Full cost -and partial cost scholarships are available
  • NSFAS/ISFAP recipients do not have to undergo a financial means test and should attach their student fee statement instead.
  • No late applications will be considered -  now closed
