The Department of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences is committed to excellence in education and research in service of society using a collaborative, inclusive approach.

The Department comprise of the Divisions of Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Speech-Language and Hearing Therapy. The under- and postgraduate programmes offered by these divisions strive to facilitate a transformative student experience that fosters life-long learning to advance knowledge. These programmes are well regarded nationally and recognised internationally.

The department's research profile is progressive. A cohort of high caliber masters and doctoral candidates participate in focused strategic research themes relevant to the African context. Supported by state of the art facilities, our research is embedded in a culture of innovation and collaborative spirit. This department hosts a South African Research Chair in Innovative Rehabilitation (funded by the National Research Foundation).
