Discrimination, Harassment and Bullying

Students have multiple options for reporting and obtaining advice regarding discrimination, harassment and bullying. These are:

Equality Champions

The role of these ECs is to assist in creating 'safe spaces' on campus where students and staff can talk about their concerns, and their experiences of unjust or unfair treatment, whether real or perceived. Click here to read more.

Equality Unit (EqU)

The Equality Unit (EqU) takes its inspiration from the South African Bill of Rights, where no person should be unfairly discriminated due to their race, gender, sex, pregnancy, marital status, ethnic or social origin, colour, sexual orientation, age, disability, religion, conscience, belief, culture, language, and birth. The core function of the Unit is to assist students and staff who have been victimised, sexually harassed, unfairly discriminated against, and who have been victims of gender-based violence through formal (and informal) complaint procedures. The EqU also focuses on HIV, the LGBTQIA+ community, gender identity, sexualities, and gender non-violence, and provides counseling and testing, training and development, and support services to all students. In addition, the Unit contributes to Stellenbosch University's Unfair Discrimination and Harassment, and HIV/Aids policies and implementation thereof.

Students can report all incidents of unfair discrimination and harassment to unfair@sun.ac.za.
For all HIV/Aids and STI-related information, students can e-mail hiv@sun.ac.za.
