UNESCO Chairs are mandated by UNESCO to undertake research and capacity-building activities related to the Chair theme.
In the case of this UNESCO Chair, research is in progress on identifying and elevating African voices and practices on intercultural competence, given that so much of the work has come from the Global North to date.
In addition, advisory boards are being developed to identify specific research agendas for the 3 priority areas of this Chair which are the intersections of a) ICC and peacebuilding b) ICC and gender and c) ICC and climate action.
UNESCO Chair partners and their graduate students and scholars who are researching in these areas are invited to contact the UNESCO Chair directly at unesco-icc@sun.ac.za to become part of the upcoming research webinar series.
Research is also underway on the role of ICC in intercultural integration in higher education which will be presented at Stellenbosch University in November 2024.
