Supernumerary program

Master of Medicine (MMed) Radiological Diagnosis

The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS) at Stellenbosch University and Tygerberg Hospital have an excellent reputation in the training of supernumerary registrars. With this initiative, specialist training is made available to clinicians from other developing countries in Africa, thereby expanding the availability of specialist healthcare in Africa.

Currently, the majority of these supernumerary registrars are non-South African citizens who are either self-funded or sponsored by their respective countries.

Supernumerary registrars participate in the same training program with the same service delivery requirements as  South African registrars.

In recent years the division of Radiodiagnosis has been training registrars from Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Tanzania, Botswana, Sierra Leone, and Malawi.

The division also accommodates short-term electives (3 - 6 months) from time to time and recently have had radiology trainees from Belgium and Nigeria.
