Africa Day 2023

This year is the 60th celebration of Africa Day on 25 May. As is the annual tradition, Stellenbosch University celebrates the event through various events and opinion pieces published around this date. 

This year, the Rector and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Wim de Villiers, hosted the Annual Africa Day Lecture on 22 May 2023, During the event, Prof Gabeeba Baderoon presented the annual lecture, titled “The University and Its Hinterland: A Relief Map." The event was hosted by Pumla Gobodo-MadikizelaChair in Violent Histories and Transgenerational Trauma and Director of the Centre for the Study of the Afterlife of Violence and the Reparative Quest (AVReQ) and the Centre for Collaboration in Africa. 

In addition, the Tygerberg International (TI) at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS), hosted an event on 25 May 2023 with keynote speaker Dr Ilse Eigelaar-Meads and the topic Supporting a Healthy Africa: An Interdisciplinary Approach​.​
