CENTRE FOR MILITARY STUDIES (CEMIS)
The primary mandate of CEMIS is to conduct research in aspects related to matters of defence and security that are of relevance to the Department of Defence. CEMIS has a multi- and interdisciplinary philosophy and focuses on high research and scientific standards, international academic citizenship and best-practice research processes while enhancing national and international research profile. CEMIS also has one annual international conference, Counter-terrorism, Technology & Development in Africa in partnership with Óbuda University in Budapest, Hungary and in 2022 was held in partnership and at the Africa Aerospace & Defence Expo, in Pretoria. During 2022, CEMIS also co-hosted The Visegrad-Africa Conference, in conjunction with the Jagiellonian Research Center for African Studies of the Jagiellonian University in Kraków, Poland, and the Africa Research Institute of the Óbuda University in Budapest, Hungary.
