Welcome to the SU Africa Platform, a community for prospective and current students and staff, researchers, partner institutions, government, business and members of the public interested in the exciting academic and research opportunities available through Stellenbosch University on the African continent.
True to its vision of becoming Africa's leading research-intensive university with a global impact, Stellenbosch University (SU) has developed and nurtured numerous partnerships with universities and research institutions across the African continent over the years. These collaborations have resulted in formal bilateral partnership agreements with 26 higher education institutions in Africa, which grant students and staff access to exchange programmes, full-degree programmes, research collaborations and staff exchange opportunities. The university also enjoys close to 120 internationalisation activities annually in more than 30 African countries with approximately 100 institutions.
One of SU's key priorities is developing academic scholarship and offering opportunities to early career researchers, PhD students and postdoc fellows. The African Doctoral Academy (with its annual winter and summer schools) plays a significant role in this regard, while the African Collaboration Grant provides seed funding for SU staff and postdoc fellows to strengthen academic collaboration with one or more partners based at institutions elsewhere on the continent.
SU is strongly committed to advancing African research excellence and is a member of several multilateral African partnerships that work together tirelessly to achieve this goal.
It is through these initiatives and the fruit that they bear that SU is strengthening the important message that Africa is capable of developing itself, of creating a better future for its people and of being a fully-fledged role-player on the international stage.
* SU's Africa platform is coordinated by SU International's Centre for Collaboration in Africa (CCA).
