SU honours academics with Research Output Awards

Stellenbosch University's (SU) annual Research Output Award ceremony took place virtually on Friday 5 February 2021. The awards were presented to SU researchers who made the biggest contribution to accredited publications (based on audited publication statistics of the 2018-output year) and doctoral graduates (December 2019/March 2020 graduations). Bronchoscopy facility unlocks major research opportunities

Stellenbosch University's (SU) Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences recently launched the Biomedical Research Institute (BMRI) Research Bronchoscopy Suite, housed within the Division of Molecular Biology and Human Genetics.

“The BMRI Research Bronchoscopy facility will pave the way for site-of-disease research for lung diseases, particularly tuberculosis," Prof Gerhard Walzl, head of the Division of Molecular Biology and Human Genetics said at the launch. Read more

Stellenbosch University Pioneering Researcher Achieves A1 NRF Rating

The renowned Computer Scientist, Prof. Andries Engelbrecht, was awarded an A1 rating by the National Research Foundation. This is the highest achievable rating on the NRF’s rating system. Read more

FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES
Horizon Europe is the new €90 billion EU framework programme for research and innovation, running from 2021 to 2027. To achieve its ambitious scientific, societal and economic objectives, and to maximize the impact of the financial investment, the programme must attract the best researchers and the most innovative companies. South Africa participates as a Third Country and many researchers at SU have participated successfully in the previous Horizon 2020.

The first work programmes are expected to be published by April 2021.The first calls will open once the work programmes have been published.

The series of #SmartResearcher Library workshops will continue to be presented in webinar format in 2021. The webinars in March will start off with Useful tools and applications for research, there will be two induction sessions for new postgraduate students and staff members as well as two webinars on research data management. The Mendeley workshops are still very popular and will be presented each month. You will also be able to find assistance each week at our shorter Mendeley Mondays sessions. The last webinar of the month will present tips on how to format your thesis with MS Word.

Create & Manage Course Reading Lists in SUNLearn for Lecturers
 
In keeping with modern trends in higher education and to support remote learning, the Library and Information Service in close consultation with academic departments and the Centre for Learning Technologies during the last term of 2020 implemented an online Course Reading Lists system. Course Reading Lists, powered by Leganto© from Ex Libris, enable lecturers to build and manage their reading lists directly from within SUNLearn. Read more about the system’s advantages for you as facilitator of a course and for your students.

Researchers now have the opportunity to submit their creative outputs to the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) for formal recognition and subsidy purposes.
The internal closing date for submissions of these outputs is 1 June 2021.

The open data repository Figshare is available as a platform to share a link to the output.
