About Equité

Equité CSC is a commuter student community founded in 2009 with an estimated 1600 current members. A Commuter Student Community (CSC) is an instrumental student establishment that is designed to orchestrate a well-rounded programme which supports students who do not utilise university residences, while simultaneously providing opportunities for the overall development of a student. CSC's cater to approximately 70% of the Stellenbosch student population; students are divided into the eleven existing communities which then implement various initiatives that propose successful social and academic integration.

This flexible and diverse structural organisation also offers access to both sporting facilities and cultural activities, including access to knowledgeable mentors that offer guidance and support during the first year. The experience offered by CSC's ultimately molds students into attractive, skilled and resourceful graduates that are better positioned for the job market.

Only established in 2009, we have developed over time to become a space that is open to sustainable growth that promotes forward-thinking in the ever-changing South African landscape.

Mentorship offered by Equité

“Mentoring is a brain to pick, an ear to listen, and a push in the right direction.” The mentorship program consists of 16 members that ensure that every newcomer has a fun, insightful, resourceful and smooth transition into university and the larger Stellenbosch community. They are there to guide and convey information regarding faculties, academics and all things Equité. The mentor program also serves as a platform to have creative freedom in how you go about building relations and conveying information. The program in itself is based on the BeWell and IFlourish system, where mentors guide newcomers through physical, social, intellectual, occupational, mental, emotional and spiritual wellness throughout their first year. In Equité, we believe that a mentor is first and foremost - a genuine friend – a person that has your best interest at heart, a person who listens to all your struggles, and a person who truly cares about you.
